LAYING THE GROUNDWORK

 

TECHNIQUE 1 – THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Saturday’s 10am-1pm.  8 Week Class

The process of acting is difficult to nail down. By technique we at Blueprint mean any process or method the actor uses to create a work of art, from the smallest action you do while rehearsing, to the most complicated exercise or character study. This process or method becomes YOUR TECHNIQUE.

  • Required reading – Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen (navigating through certain chapters)
  • Class materials with exception of the book provided by instructor

This class will be taught in several parts: introduction to the masters of the craft – Stanislavski, Meisner, Strasberg, Adler and Grotowski; understanding the different techniques; developing your instrument and beginning to create an individualized process/method of acting that works for you.

  • Required Reading – Great Acting Teachers & Their Methods by Richard Brestoff
  • Learning the language of the craft, warming up/relaxation exercises – listening, concentration, imagination, magic if, sensory and emotional processes, theater games and acting/ vocal exercises.
  • Developing and applying a personal method through the use of monologue work.

TECHNIQUE 2 – MONOLOGUE INTENSIVE

Tuesday’s  7:00pm-10pm  8 Week Class

  • Required Reading – The Monologue Workshop by Jack Poggi
  • Students will work on 2 monologues in this 10 week cycle, the text will be provided by the instructor.

This class takes the actor through a deeper, more intense concentration on technique that will assist the actor in further developing their individual method by applying their technique to the work.

  • Reviewing the Masters of the craft and bringing their concepts to the work
  • Working on the components of creating the performance: objective, obstacles, sense memory, substitution, breaking down the beats and text, improvisation and more.
  • Delving deeper into emotion and depth the students work will be put on camera, giving the student the opportunity to see his/her work and perfect their process/performance.

SCENE STUDY 1 – THE ANATOMY OF A SCENE

Monday’s  7:00pm-9:00pm  10 Week Class

  • Required reading – Script Analysis by Ivanna Chubbuck
  • Scene will be assigned by the instructor
  • This class focuses on the first stages of character development, subtext, actions, actable choices, moment before, the rehearsal process, script analysis and further applies technique to scene work.

  • Advanced Class (must audition)

YOUTH ACTING & PRODUCTION

ACTING FOR KIDS/TEENS
This class is designed for kid/teen actors of all levels. Each Saturday, you will continue to exercise your acting muscles by exploring the fundamentals of acting for film, television and commercials, slating for the camera, preparing the right monologue for auditions, scene study, creating a character as well as improvisation, acting in the moment all while you work out the skills needed to get the part! You will work as at team with other kids/teens who share the same passion for acting as you. You will also have the opportunity to showcase your work to your friends, family, and industry professionals during our quarterly live presentation.

2012 FILM & TELEVISION ACTING OVERNIGHT CAMP (ages 8-16) JULY 9-19, 2012

At this overnight camp, young actors wake up as though they were in Hollywood. No matter where they are coming  from this will be a camp experience to remember forever! It will feel like they are on a real SET the entire time.  Not only will campers be acting in our feature film, Professional Instructors will also cover; Acting & Improvisation, Fundamentals of acting, Scene Study and Rehearsal Techniques, Key Slating and Interviewing Tips, Auditioning & Cold Reading Techniques, working on Commercials, Creative Play and Team Building skills, just to name a few. If that wasn’t enough, your child will be positively encouraged throughout the camp to build their confidence, communicate their ideas more effectively, connect with others who share the same passion, and oh yeah- HAVE FUN!

BLUEPRINT WORKSHOPS

PILOT SEASON BOOT CAMP: 2 DAY SCENE STUDY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP W/MARISHAKA S. PHILLIPS (The official workshop for the 11eleven11 Project – www.studio11films.com)
This 2 day intensive workshop is taught by Celebrity Acting Coach Marishaka S. Phillips. Actors will learn character development, beats, actions, emotional sense memory, personalization substitution, sensorial, scene analysis, script breakdown, exploration of need,  scene exploration with partner, Improvisation exercise (time allowed)

COMMERCIAL WORKSHOP
This class breaks down the different types of commercials and the important tools needed to promote a product. Students also learn the skills and techniques needed to book commercials. Students go through the entire process from auditioning for the commercial to actually shooting the commercial at the end of the workshop. Focus is given to blocking, working with props, improvisational skills, determining your type and creating an unforgettable on-camera presence.

TOMMY FORD’S CSI FOR ACTORS (CHARACTER SCENE INVESTIGATION)
CSI for Actors’ is an acting forensics course. You will examine, investigate, and explore nontraditional methods of character study and research. You’ll also delve into improvisational techniques, survey vocal styles, and observe body movement.

ASHLEY LECONTE CAMPBELL’S SCRIPT ANALYSIS FOR ACTORS

This 7 hour workshop is full of everything an actor needs to answer the question, “What are the most important things for me to do when I get my script/sides?!”  We all know that the answer is NOT that you should race to memorizing your lines….but what is the most important way to prepare? In this workshop we will: Discuss and use our imaginations to find our character’s want, obstacles, environment, relationships, stakes, and history. Break down sides from Film/TV projects shot in the area. Watch short video clips of Los Angeles casting directors/actors/coaches espousing these exact techniques for creating a 3-dimensional character. Take part in fun exercises that put to use the things we are learning throughout the day.
